I was bored…and Wikipedia was up… so I searched for "hopping" (being a cool name and all…
Guess what I found?
A Buckley-class destroyer named the USS Hopping!!! (sigh..the title was a dead give away…)
Truly, the US Navy commissioned the destroyer on May 21, 1943 – naming it after Lieutenant Commander Hallsted L. Hopping.
Note: the picture to the right is a model of the USS Hopping – yelp! Someone liked her enought to make a model.

The USS Hopping made nine convoy crossings of the Atlantic Ocean before being sent to the Pacific. While in the Pacific, she withstood numerous Japanese air attacks as well as at least one concealed enemy shore battery.[@more@]
After the surrender of Japan, the USS Hopping transported newly released POWs back home to the US. Following that mission, the ship was used for anti-mine work in Japanese and Philippine waters until she was decommissioned on May 5, 1947 – just shy of her fourth birthday.
Official, the USS Hopping remained on the Navy books as part of the Atlantic Reserve Fleet until Sept 1964 – then on Aug 15, 1966 she was sold as scrap metal to the Boston Metals Company. (much sadness).
Oh – and while Lieutenant Commander Hallsted L. Hopping was a relative…he's not in my direct live. Just a distance relative.
very cool
sweet
Hopping family
Lt. Commander Hallsted L. Hopping was the first Naval squadron commander [AIR], to be killed in action at the battle of Coral Sea. He was a direct relative. And all Hopping family members should be proud. I gotta get this model !!!!!
